Another look back

Another look back.
All the time we've been bound
hand and foot to the payment plan.
.
The game defaulted: you gave way,
your look evasive, suitcase creative.
"When will you come back," I asked,
unaware of the true implications.
.
"Not sure," you said, troubled,
a haunting look, mottled flesh,
his hand a blessing on my arm.
"It's too soon to say."
.
Now: years later, my arm cleared-
I'm turning heads, you stare -
looged for look, pure eye contact.
"No," I say calmly over the tulmut.
.
The man with me, stops, stares -
"Isn't that?" he asks, shortsighted.
"Nah! It's too soon to say...."
He holds the door, we walk away.
