Favors.
In days em-blazed old, when all were very bold -
We, as Knights would chatter as we polished dusk.
The glow of the fire, warmed our socks to our feet -
And pulled with itchy fingers the slow cooked meat.
Until we lay a dreaming – in a side room;
All too soon -the morning, with the birds half a-swoon.
In days em-blazed gold, when all was to be told...
We, as Knights would chatter as we polished up sunrise.
Yawns burst the morning air, amid laughter – left...
dreams of a Troll King fast asleep, split on a sixpence.
Knifes were drawn on bacon, which sizzle fit to spit.
Outside the world was waiting, debts to be met.
In days em-blazed bold, when we all were old -
All us Knights Armour-ed up, and the war horses were brought.
We left a pig we'd played a game for, cooked somewhat -
Our squires stood by us, stiff shoulders, words held back.
In all the get up and go days, we met the sun face on.
Emblazoned with the sunshine, and entrenched with honour bold,
A salutation, “Good Woman!,” to the witches lair.
From Knights who stood their duty, from dusk to dawn,
who stopped, collected potions, by which a man can be led.
And she laughed, “For Vesuvius sake,” accepted the favor -
We left her wishing, wistfully, that exceptions can be left.
The course was...
E. Boland's .... Ten Premodern Poems by Women at... stanford, usa.
