After Kitty left, Phyliss and Leggings were speechless.
"We ought to tell her the truth," suggested Leggings, "I mean it would be easier for her if we did. Some of these people are still at it. I heard that someone with a loud hailer was out again the other night, shouting her name."
"Why do they do it?" said Phyliss, she was rolling the numbers in her head, "I mean we might have it wrong. I keep on working on a why, only to find that there's another why underneath."
Leggings nodded, got up, smoothed down her wrinkle free leggings, and went to get coffee. "Thinking material." she said.
"I heard that they have even taken dirty pictures of a lookalike, same hair - thick, curly, in the same bed linen, to make her seem really bad."
"Oooh shades of..... and how do you know the same bed linen?"
"Yes, only he's young enough to make mistakes, and get beyond them." said Phyliss, "And to be honest the world has changed... beyond recognition sometimes.. the same bed linen was up for sale outside the house."
"Old fashioned." teased Leggings, "Only so am I."
"I think it might have been him that had an accident near to... Someone puts flowers out each year. Othewise... I'd not have thought about it."
"Him = the one that was trying to see her? Does she know?"
"I think she's still waiting for him to come back. Or was for a long time, she wanted to talk to him." Phyliss said over the cup. "Horrible really. She ought to have been the first to know."

"Where do all thesse people come from?" asked Leggings, "Has she mentioned knowing anyone from the past?"
"Yes, some from Sc.....gh, and others from all over. Old neighbours some of them. She said the ones that have been tormenting her said that they got letters after she moved out. That's how they got to know. She said her 'Dad' would have known them all."
"I wonder," said Leggings thoughtfully, her face a picture, it was something she couldn't say. How could she tell her friend that she had a secret identity at the Ho., and if kitty did, was it broached or taken?
"She'll be back in a bit," said Phyliss, "Ask her then."

When Kitty came back - the girls were beginning to wonder about the possiblity of cream cakes, cream horns & doughnuts.
Kitty took what she was carrying into the kitchen. Leggings followed her in.
"Do you think all this has something to do with the past?" she asked her. "I mean before you were fostered?"
"Yes, I think so, only my past is so blurred," said Kitty fishing about in a drawer.
"Do you know who you were?" asked Leggings bluntly, "Is it concealed? Do you have a secret identity with the HO?"
"Yes but I've only once heard from them, and they wanted to deport me. At the time I didn't realise or recognise it, it was only sent to me about 7 years back." Kitty said quietly. "No idea why they wanted to deport me. What have I done?"
"What did you do with it?" asked Leggings.
"I sent it back, it was only when I really thought about it - that I knew what it was. I was about 16 when Mrs. Ee asked me to fill in a advert form in a magazine - to show her younger daughter how to do it. She then signed it. I didn't. Outside the room I overheard her saying that she would be second signitory on it... and if I went abroad I suppose they would get everything."
"What a terrible person."
"She was sorry before she died." said Kitty. "I'm beginning to think its her tribe that are at me now. Because they think it should be their's. Whatever it is. I've even wondered about the estate in Kent? That's supposed to belong to a single parent. Which I'm past now, children being grown up."
.......................................................................................
"Who exactly were you brought up by?"
"In the end, a couple with a daughter who went on to have other children. I used to wonder if he because he said he was royal too, only not by the usual route - was really Michael Tennyson."
"Really?"
"Yes, he had a horrid temper. Apart from which he was okay. He was brilliant at Maths, and up till Grandfather told me I had to act dumb, so that Mrs Ee didn't want to kill me, and someone else didn't take me away to a school for brighter kids again.... I was his star too!"
...............................................................................
"Is your HO name easy to remember?"
"No I had no idea I was choosing a name for that, and was peeved at having to do something for the girl. I was fed up. I didn't want her using my name at all. So I just repeated letters and it looks african. No wonder I'd forgot it."
