My Time Capsule

I locked my time capsule,
filling it with a lungful of 21st century air
and a smattering of useless trinkets.
You wouldn’t think it, but
I’ve been trapped between decades,
like a wasp in a jam jar.
One foot in the future, one in the past,
my nose turned up at the idea that
I’m nothing but a hollow shell without you...
Like those Easter eggs you love, but without the
baby Smarties on the inside.
Like a tiny chick waiting to hatch.
I buried my time capsule
pouring my soul into it,
along with half a cup of sugar,
encase they don’t have that when you are.
‘When you are’, is that right to say?
Oh, the future seems so far away.
“Some day, maybe someday.”
If that’s the case, I guess I’ll stay.
I’ll lock my heart in this capsule, keep it fresh.
When you dig it up, like old dinosaur bones
I hope you’re ready to hold it in your hands,
and do with it what you can.
