If Jesus were born today it would be in a bad part of town,
In a rusty old car in a garage on a blanket in the boot he'd lie down.
His parents would not be distinguished, they wouldn't be right at the top,
His father would have been made redundant, his mother would work in a shop.
We make it seem so romantic when we talk about mangers and hay,
But the manger stank of the animal's dung,
In the trough that they ate from he lay.
Nazareth was really like Newcastle, an ordinary place to go,
Bethlehem was quite unimportant and there wouldn't have been any snow.
