You Ask Me If I'm Happy

You ask me if I'm happy,
Do you really expect me to feel that way?
Don't you ever start to doubt,
Is happiness what life's about?
If I wanted to be happy,
I would live another way,
I could be a lot more selfish
Than the man I am today.
Spend all of my money on things that are just for me,
Give no time to others, run away and be set free.
You ask me if I'm happy,
I never actually planned to live this way.
One door opened and another closed,
So I ended up here today.
Perhaps one day I'll ask God,
Do you have a master plan,
Or do you play a game of chess
And make the best moves that you can?
Sometimes I think we're winning,
Things are better than they've been,
The devil took the Bishop,
But God still might save the Queen.
We are driftwood,
Scattered on the ocean,
Tossed round by the water,
Blown where the wind wants us to be.
We are driftwood,
Scattered on the ocean,
Tossed round by the water,
Blown where the wind wants us to be.
You ask me if I'm happy,
Is anyone happy anyway?
People live their lives from day to day,
Some problems go, some problems stay.
But if you have a desire that you cherish in your heart,
You might have a chance to do it,
You might get a chance to start.
As life rolls on like a car, when its brakes fail on a hill,
You find yourself in some strange place where your dreams will be fulfilled.
We are driftwood,
Scattered on the ocean,
Tossed round by the water,
Blown where the wind wants us to be.
We are driftwood,
Scattered on the ocean,
Tossed round by the water,
Blown where the wind wants us to be.
