January 25th sees the first Full Moon of the year, colloquially known as the Wolf Moon.
Silent Mystic
Silver light cascades on
a tree-lined panorama,
oaks backlit by dark skies,
timber wolves howling,
silhouettes shift in ether.
Tendrils of sallow cloak
drape on lunar shoulders,
drifting nebulous cumulus,
timeless mystic watching -
symbiosis of elementals.
Perpetual wax and wane,
borne of earth and iron,
caressing unseen tides
until the candescent sun
rises on a crimson horizon.

It's called the wolf moon
It's called the wolf moon (valcha luna / вълча луна) in Bulgaria too. Mysterious and exciting it may be, but it makes our dogs think they are wolves too. Even though one of them is only a shih tzu they'll howl through the night tonight, and through the night of any full moon. I don't think they're fully aware of what's going on but the barking of the more streetwise dogs living around us spurs them on.
So... lots of coffee and daytime naps for me and Priyatelkata tomorrow.
I enjoyed your poem Paul. I'll read it again at 3:00 am.

I think your writing was more
I think your writing was more visual than the photo, with the moon through and on the trees, and the wind howling through!
Particularly liked the last 3 lines (though, now unseen, its 'caressing' work will continue!) Wasn't sure of the reference to 'iron'? Rhiannon

Hi Paul,
Hi Paul,
we had a gorgeous moon last night, in fact I left the blind up in the kitchen and stood gazing at it for quite a while. Makes me wish that humans didn't mess with nature and its beauty. My star sign of cancer is ruled by the moon and I feel a great affinity with this silver lady who has filled the imagination of many writers.
Your poem shows exactly how that inspiration can manifest with your excellent creative powers. The wolf being such a mystery is one of my favourite creatures and I was drawn to your words.
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.

We missed the 25th due to
We missed the 25th due to cloud, but this morning there she was - huge over the fens; and I thought of your poem, such ethereal language and imagery, so perfect for us Paul - a good one!

you certainly caught the
clever moon not letting you catch her with a photo, so you had to write this lovely poem instead :0)

Thankyou for saying that :0)
Thankyou for saying that :0) I was interested, how you said your photo came out as a blur, as when the moon was full, and I tried photoing it, just as with you, it didn't work, though mine was more of a BLARE, like there was just too much light to be held in a circle. But I have not come up with a wonderful poem instead! Too cloudy and dark for any photos today
