I can promise you, I smiled.

I remember summer holidays
They were continually hot and dry
They were all of them scorchers...
I can promise you, I smiled.
Basking under those silver willows
Skinny dipping beneath those blue
Horizontal horizons with you!
I can promise you, I smiled.
Oh, yes I can promise you
You use to smile too.
You use to sparkle like a morning
Woodland; green like the wild,
Lady’s Mantle!
Gently dew lit feathered too.
Swimming in those large open
Fresh air freshwater lakes
Other times in rivers swollen
We'd pretended just to be
The very best of friends
As we held on to each other
Waist deep in the emerald weeds
Where the waters deepened...
I can promise you, we smiled:
Oh, yes I can promise you
You use to smile too.
Where the rivers would
Weave and wend
In at that widening twisting, bend...
I can promise you
And all the bees and the birds
We felt truly... saved.
Tangled-up above and below, our; knees.
But right now I've noticed
A yellowing flickering flame
Turning honeysuckle ivy-green
Oh, how these summer days
Have limbered along and changed.
Oh, there no longer like a long,
Fresh sip of lemonade!
Oh, there no longer
Frightened of becoming, frigid
In the glass, in the grass!
I can promise you
They’re darker
But I can promise you
They’re still not too dark
To harass my broken heart
In the circles of the one who startles.
Oh now all these summer days
Can never ever be mended?
Oh, how there now just like
El Niño seasons
Inclement as the eastern tropics
Drizzly affairs inconstant collision
In endless inconstant collision
Oh, was it all just an allusion
An innocent childish delusion!
Oh please, please, please
Sweet nightingales
Just sing and lie again to me
Just leave me with one
Last ode still unwritten!
Just turn on the sunshine
Way below this grey sky
Just sing and lie again to me
Just leave me with one
Last ode still unwritten!
Oh please, please, please...
Oh please, please, please...
