The Afterthought

I am the poem
at the back of the book
hidden discreetly,
where no one will look.
The rejected fragment
that somehow got in.
the dull afterthought
which prizes won’t win.
I hide at the back.
of your signed publication
a few muted stanzas
lacking inspiration.

Ah, such is a poets life
I liked this. Spare and hits the right note with a few rhyming stanzas. And at least it did get in the book!

We have all felt like
We have all felt like this Mark at some or other time, like the poem itself even! hidden discreetly, but could be you hid the poem because could be very personal and revealing, it feels too beautiful and sensitive for anyone to read. Remember, The stone which the builders rejected, has become the corner stone.
