Picking at Poetry

Picking at poetry, like picking at scabs
rhyming couplets, yes please, they sound fab
Half rhymes, internal rhymes, they really are the thing,
repetitive refrains run like choruses to sing.
Syllabic emphasising, hey it's the big iamb,
pattering metric feet, all kicking at the plan.
What's the meta-phor, and what's a simile like,
I'd be better off downtown, riding my new bike.
Why am I stressing out about poetic lines,
as writing poems in free verse is a favourite of mine?
Can't stop thinking of these poetic terms , I really need to rest,
from sonnets, ballads , villanelles, and pesky anapaests!

Lots of big words!
Lots of big words! To me as well, the essence of poetry is exactly that, freedom.
Cheers! Tom
