can't reach out

can't offer a helping
hand to hidden pain

he was confused
about what he
was supposed to know
and what he hadn't been
told and wasn't allowed to
talk about

but he did know
and the knowledge
was driving him
insane

if he spoke to any loved
one about their pain
he was betraying the
keeper of the secret

he was protected
they didn't want to
worry him
but he didn't
need the protection and
had shoulders strong enough
to absorb the pain

the secrets
were
all consuming

fed on a diet of
innuendo and
misunderstanding

he wanted to lance them
destroy them
but they were too
powerful to tackle
they were like joined up writing
