two cheap cuddly toys face him
as he drinks his cup of
forgettable
instant coffee

he can't remember where he
got them
maybe he got lucky
at fairground
with darts on
cards

as he couldn't remember
he didn't want to throw
them away
they might be good
memories which end
up in landfill

a half empty cigarette packet
and a blue plastic lighter
goad him into lighting up
he couldn't throw them
away either

even though they didn't
mean anything to him
