Underwater

he slips underwater
holding his nose
and blowing bubbles
out of his mouth

the water is warm and he
turns his head towards the
surface and watches the sunlight
dance before him

he emerges like a seal
hair swept back and breathes
again
huge greedy gulps of air

water drips of his nose
hitting the water below
mini ripples emerge
as he prepares to dive
again

he takes a huge breath
and sinks below
closing his eyes
enjoying the warmth again
he lets his air out
slowly this time
in spurts
his chest heaves with the
effort

slowly he lets himself float to
the surface
and then opens his eyes again
spluttering this time as
he replenishes the air

time to leave the water
he climbs ashore
and lays in the sunshine
drying his limbs in the
warm air
