Wire-crossed Lovers

She always treated being middle class like it was an affliction,
a woman in terminal decay, suffocated by coventions and what not,
He was a faceless beauracrat, sitting at his desk, forever clicking the mouse,
a legend in his own lunch time!
I could romanticise how they met, one rain filled night...but I shal lnot.
You see the meeting was really dour, worlds did not collide, nor at any hour, the heaven's did not rejoice, ill fated lovers they were not.
And in the moment that the question was asked,
A shiver went all down her spine, well, what she had of one.
He felt as if a bullet seared into his cranium; they did meet at the bullet factory of love,
hearts pierced by unseen signals,
but he ruined it all by constantly stuttering, muttering a general cluttering of words, half words and almost words. Mostly grunts and sighs.
Dignified it was not.
They went to the pictures, and each other. He decided not to be touchy-feely, she thought he was cold like a planet. He was Pluto right now, seemingly made of ice and distant. Curiotease, shredded nerves, trembling hearts and many such oddities.
The film was not at all worth seeing,
He longed to gaze into her eyes, but she might think he was a pervert, he was always scared about being too masculine and manly,
Women these days seemed to like metro-sexuals,
This scene, cosy and smooth it was not.
Barely a word all night, she was feeling uptight, he was feeling slight and wished to fall through the cracks in the pavement.
Oh, for this night to end would be magnificent!, he told himself.
The offer of coffee was off the menu, she found him weird and aloof,
He could see a piece of popcorn sticking to her tooth,
And now close, pressed, an immortal, timeless scene - man meets woman, man likes woman but does not show it.
Woman does not know what she wants but decides to take it anyway.
These wired-cross lovers, like many before and many after, kissed beneath the starry light, and pledged a contract to be together, its not love but it will do, will do, will do.
It will have to do.
