The Diver

Now I will dive
Dive down
Dive down deep
Down to where my ears howl mutely
And there is no colour
And no sound
But the banshee of memory
Go
Go down
Down deeper
Down to where veins form ridges
On a battered forehead
And a barren face
Dive
Dive down
Down deeper
Down and stalk the crushing walls
Of invisibility
And be compressed like a lemon
Exhume those toxins of love
Go
Go down
Down deeper
Down and draw Swallow arms
Toward the grateful darkness
Linking arms with the tired remnants
Of time
Dive
Dive down
Down deeper
Down to where even pain will grimace
On a sea-bed of ragged glass
That will rip and tear the underbelly
Of the happiest fish
Go
Go down
Go down deeper
Down to that peace denied above
To secrets we’ll never share
To truths we’ll never lie about
To hope we’ll never betray
Dive
Dive down
Down deeper
Deeper
