Unrealistic Stunt Doubles

We wrestle like uncoordinated snakes
Hissing and shedding skin
Our emotions knotted with
Badly rehearsed movements
Coated in isolation and tears;
Shrill hearts hibernating in the
Freezing fog of overlapping compassion
Prayers offered to shrines of contrivance
Arteries clogged by blood dams
We remain numb
Nonchalant, necromancers
Sliver tongues as keen as diamond
And as worthless
Slice wound after wound with
More penetration than our
Tired punches; sores bleed
Unabated seeping out from
Underneath the disproportionate band-aid
Of brittle vengeance
Corrosive eyes betray the passion
And bite of broken
Dentures in a glass jar
Two shells simultaneously
Empty and hungry
Human knives and forks
Unable to digest
We career through this
Mise-en-scène
Smashing sugar glass on
Bemused faces and
Breaking Ikea chairs
Across wispy backs
Feigning sucker punches
And sparring in self-conscious malevolence
Dancing our dislocated futures
Around this acerbic ring
Until canvas bound and
Sprawled we smile
Taking the count
