Daniel told me this week, “Since I have been working, over the years, when I have been skint, different lads, when they have realized, that I have no food with me, they have given me some of theirs, for they know too what it is like to be skint, before, during or after pay day.” He goes on, “It’s a humbling experience, but we have learnt to help each other out.” He told me, “Wayne at work, at least once a week, he brings enough food for me and him, cooked by his Wife.”
He said to me, “I noticed one of the lads, this week he had a very small lunch, I asked him about it, he told me, “After we got paid, there was not much left for me, the Wife and the kids, we are now £70 in the red.”” Daniel said, “Mum he is a lovely lad, he has not had an easy life, so I told him, tomorrow I will cook for you and bring it to work.”
Sure enough, he cooked for him and himself, and took it in a large container. Daniel said, “You can tell, he is not used to anyone doing something nice for him, nor giving him anything, but he took it and ate it all.”
The next day, Daniel didn’t have time to cook, instead he went to the supermarket and bought food for him and the lad, he spent quite a bit, and they shared it at work.
Yesterday he did the same thing. I am SO proud of him. He saw the need, and met the need. He said, “Mum, I know what it feels like, to have no food at work.”
