Two things have inspired me recently. Have watched on the telly, ‘Sort Your Life Out,’ with Stacey Solomon. She and her Team go into people’s houses and takes everything out, the house is full then everything is taken to a huge warehouse, and the homeowner must reduce it to half, to keep. The rest, is put in the section, to throw away, or to sell or to donate, to charity.
The rest of her Team, adjust the home to make it better by decoration it, using their furniture, making the home more functional. Another Team member cleans the empty home. The third member of her Team, makes sure it is still reduced even further in the warehouse and, that same Team member makes the home organized. It’s a great formular, but it is not easy to get rid of some things, for painful memories can be attached to them. This is where Stacey comes in, along with the updating of the home. She is sensitive to their needs and creative too, with her many talents.
It is always lovely to see it coming together and to see the outcome, of each room in the house. The hard work, over seven days, each day is important. To see the final day, and everything is in perfect order, and completely decluttered.
The homeowner, is thrilled and so is their family and friends. They then thank the rest of the Team.
I have watched it at least three times and each time I have thought, I would like to declutter my home, but Paul and I are hoarders! He is worse than me.
I decided last week to fill a large bin liner with the clothes that I do not need. I have a lot of clothes and so I went through all my clothes and over the space of an hour filled a huge bag. Some things were not easy. Some items were very easy to put in the bag.
I took them to the Air Ambulance, because I can drive to their back door instead of struggling to carry it through the Town. About eight items I threw away, as they wore torn and in need of repair.
I still have a lot of clothes left. I was thinking, If I had to fill another bag full of clothes, that would ‘hurt’ and I honestly don’t think I could do it. Even though, I have clothes that I haven’t worn for many years I would never throw them away. The time is not right yet. Along the way, in the smaller bin bag, I threw away three very old and outgrown, torn T-shirts that belonged to Paul, and a few of my skirts. They were no good at all. Each year I tie and dye him, three one off t-shirts, so that he will always look smart, nice and trendy.
A beautiful, old, well made, square coffee table, made with dark wood, will be next to go to the Air Ambulance. I asked the staff, “Would you like a coffee table?” He replied, “Yes.” I was passing the Air Ambulance today, so I went inside and they have beautiful furniture, half of them had the stickers on them, Sold. Which was good. The coffee table is very heavy, so I won’t be able to put it in my car on my own, and when I get there, the Staff will have to help me take it out of the car.
I am excited, because of Stacey who gets things done for other people, and Paul, who don’t like to give anything away, I have been inspired to get something done, at last. After the coffee table goes, I will think of other things to go. I have beautiful shoes, hardly worn, maybe they can go on vinted, with Meghan’s help. Too nice to be given to the Charity shop. Then after the shoes go, I will think of maybe coats that I have not used for years, but they are taking up huge space in my wardrobe. I have taken lots of things to the tip. After the coats, I might as well throw away the old, small telly with built-in video section in, that might go next. I am feeling inspired.

I haven't seen this programme
I haven't seen this programme but it is a very good idea to declutter - well done for being inspired by it Maxine! It is quite time consuming but, from experience, really worth it!

Ah - so if you're doing it
Ah - so if you're doing it with when you're gone in mind, then it's a scandi (Swedish I think) tradition called 'death clean'.
