Daniel my son, lost his key in the house. We all looked for it, and couldn’t find it.
Daniel works nights, and would need his key to get into the house tonight. Myself nor Paul wanted to lend him our key, so Paul said, “Get a new key cut today,” I said, “OK.” I knew exactly where to go. Paul asked me, “How much will it be?” I said, “About £4.50,” He replied, “FOUR POUNDS FIFTY!” I said, “Yes, or less.”
I walked past the man, his shop has been there about five years, and walked the two minutes to the well-established shop that has been in the Town for decades. I never go to the man that has been there for five years.
I said to the Man, “How much is it to have this key cut?” He took it and said, “Nine pounds,” I said, NINE POUNDS?” He said, “Or two for £13,” Shocked I looked him in the eyes and said, “I walked past the other man to come to you.” He said, pointing to the overalls with the large name of the Company on his chest, “It’s the Timpson’s name.” I didn’t even know if we had £9 in our bank account, I said to him, “Well I’m going to the other man, he should be cheaper, if he isn’t I will come back to you.” He said, “He WILL be cheaper.”
I walked the short distance to the other man, and asked him, “How much to have this key cut?” He said, “Two pounds fifty,” I was stunned, at the difference in price. I handed him the key; in five seconds it was done!
I gave him my bank card, he said, “Cash only,” I said, “You could have told me that before.” In a flash he took the key back, I looked in my purse amongst all my receipts and found a £5 note, I gave it to him and he gave me the key back.
I asked him, “Which one is the new one?” He replied, “The gold coloured one.” I said, “OK.” I gave it to Paul, to give to Daniel, then I went to work.
Later I text Daniel and asked, “Use your new key to see if it works, and when you find your old key give it us back, Ok.” He replied, “OK, I have tried it, it works great, and yes when I find my old key I will give you the new key back.”
Sometimes, looking for a little key, is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I lost my car key once-
I lost my car key once- unknowingly placed them in the freezer with the container of ice cream I'd bought - didn't find them for several days-But it is odd how two places that close in location can offer the same service and chage such a wide difference in the price - and, as you found out, the less expensive key worked just as welll; perhaps even better.
