The Market.

I never shop at the market. My Husband Paul loves it. Just before Christmas last year, we were in the Town together, that is rare. We do shop together but that is usually at Tesco.
Paul wanted to go to the market, I didn’t, but I tagged along. It was an outdoor market, I knew he wouldn’t be long. He loves the fresh fruit and veg that they put in a bowl, with the price clearly shown, so everyone can see, it’s a bargain.
To me it is never a bargain, for I like to examine each fruit, in the store, before I buy. In a deep dish this isn’t so.
I agree it is good to shop local, but for me it is not fruit.
While Paul was busy looking for his fresh fruits and veg at a stall, I was behind him about 2 yards away, when something on the ground caught my eye.
I thought it was that, but I wasn’t sure. I quickly picked it up and put it in my pocket. We then went to Tesco.
Later when we arrived home, I said to, “When we were at the market, and you were at the fruit and veg stall, I was near you and something on the ground caught my eye, I quickly picked it up and put it in my pocket, it was this.”
I showed Paul what was in my hand, it was a £20 note. I said, “I wonder if it is real?” He took it from me, and held it in his hands and held it up to the light, he said, “It is real.”
I wasn’t convinced, I was afraid to spend it, for I didn’t want to give it to the shop and for them to embarrasses me my saying, “This is FAKE!” I would not intentionally give anyone a fake note.
I carried it around in my little purse, never forgetting it was there, even when I had cash back of £20, I always kept it separate. So, if it was £30 in cash, it was not near the “£20.”
I didn’t want to spend it in my local Tesco, as the Staff there know me, in various shops it was never far from my mind.
Well today at work I went out with another co-worker, and I had not had breakfast, she said, “I’m having a MacDonalds.” That is one of my favourite foods on Earth! I had decided not to buy it again, because the price had crept up and up and the last time, I had a drive thru I decided, no more! I would rather spend my hard earned cash at TKMaxx. So, from that day, many months ago, I believe it was January this year, I have not bought anything from MacDonalds. It didn’t matter how hungry I was, I would wait until I got home and eat there. In the past, I would have MacDonalds once or more times a week. I have eaten MacDonalds when Meghan has bought it for me and she has ordered it as a takeaway at home, and enjoyed it. That happened three times.
Today, when my co-worker said what she was going to eat, I thought to myself, I will just have a hot chocolate with large fries. But I thought, those two items will be expensive. Then I thought I will just have what was my favourite thing to have and that is, the fabulous Quarter pounder with cheese, then I remembered, that the fries is sort of free, if it is had as a ‘meal.’ I knew that either way, it was going to be expensive, it was going to cost me!
The person I was with, didn’t have to worry about the price. As we walked into the restaurant, I was still undecided as to what I was going to have.
She ordered first, with her apple pie hers came to over an eye watering £8.
With all the receipts in my little purse, I could’nt find my bank card quick enough, then I remembered the £20 note, it was it, it was now or never.
I decide, as it was found, then I had nothing to lose, and if it was found to be fake, then so be it.
I ordered, my usual favourite, from there, Quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and hot chocolate. I handed over the £20 she took it from me with out a second thought and gave me my change.
All those months of worry. We went and sat down to wait for it to be brought to us. I always like my MacDonalds kept in the bag, like I am going to take it out, as it keeps it warmer, and protected for anyone who may sneeze!
While we were waiting for the food to be brought to us, I went and got little pots of tomato ketchup, with the thoughts of sabotage, that I have heard horror stories over the years of what Staff have done to the food and sauces, around the world, passing through my mind. I filled up the little pots, two for me and two for her and waited.
As usual they were very busy with customers ordering at the desk front and the majority using the trendy touch screen method. That touch screen, I see as prober grubby!
After what seem like an age, our food arrived. I gave my co-worker hers and then I had mine. I put the empty tray underneath my chair, for she had chosen to sit on a tiny table for two. I only do that if I am on my own.
When I had got the small pots of tomato ketchup, I also had got napkins and salt and pepper.
That is the only time I add salt on anything it is when I have chips from the chippy and in KFC or MacDonalds.
I added the sachet of salt, and I dipped each chip into the tomato sauce. I did this until it was finished. It was divine. Then I ate the wonderful burger, it brought back lovely memories. She had already finished hers; how can anyone eat that fast!
Thankfully she went out for a fag, so I could finish off my burger in peace. Finaly, I opened my lovely hot chocolate drink and it was still lovely and hot, I thought as I took my first sip, there is no need to ever add sugar, it is perfect as it is. I looked at the sugar sachet that had been put on the tray for us, I put the sugar in my bag along with the salt and pepper, should an emergency ever come up.
I joined my co-worker outside, in the warm sunshine.
I really enjoyed my unexpected breakfast; it was 10 out of 10.
This lovely morning happened, because I found that lovely £20.
