Yesterday, I was in Tesco, and I saw my son and grandson, Daniel had two large bundles of pretty flowers in each hand. I saw the price £20 for each. I thought I hope one of those isn’t for me.
A short time later, I saw them at the till and I joined them. I asked Daniel, “Who are those flowers for?” He replied, one is for you the other is for Louisa.”
I said, “Please can I have the money instead?” He replied, “It would be rude, and without thought, to just give the money.” I replied, “I would rather the money, so that I can buy what I want from TKMaxx.”
We were getting closer to the Cashier, and soon it would be his turn, I said, “Please Daniel, that is what I would love.” Looking at the flowers in his hand, he said, “So, what shall I do with these?” There was a Staff nearby, I said, “Please can you have these? As I would like the money instead.” With a lovely smile he said, “No problem.”
He paid for the other bunch of £20 flowers, he didn’t even have a Tesco Club Card, so I used mine. Daniel said, “I will transfer the £20 into your account.”
Later, he said, “It seems rude, to just give money,” I said, “I have always told you, I am easy to buy for, just give me the cash so that I can choose what I want at TKMaxx.”
I was telling Paul, when I went home, I said, “Louisa, loves to have her lashes and nails done, surely if he gave her the £20, she would appreciate it, more than a bunch of flowers that last a few days?” Paul agreed with me.
I mentioned yesterday’s conversation to Daniel today when I saw him, he said, “Lousia, might not like it, if I gave her the money,” I said, “Well ask her, then your expensive money will go further and she will be able to use the money for what she likes.” He went on, “Not everyone is like you, some people would prefer a gift.” Finally, he added, “I would like flowers, bought for me.” I replied, “Good.”
I said to Paul, “I am sure with all the people we saw yesterday with huge bunches of flowers; I am sure Tesco made fifty thousand pounds,” Paul said, “They would have made a lot more than that!” If I had not seen the price, of those flowers he bought Louisa, I would have guessed that they were £10 I was shocked at the price, it is a rip off.
I had a lovely Mother’s Day, I went to Church in the morning, and then went to work, as I forgot to book it off! Paul cooked me a lovely dinner, and brought it to me.
Early this morning, my first thoughts was for those who I knew who over the years and recently had lost their Mum. I sent them Mother’s Day thoughts on the loss of your Mum and let them know, “I am thinking of you today.” Some replied, some didn’t.
I also remembered, that many moons ago, when I was single, that it the day of the year, I hated the most, as I didn’t have a child, so as I have friends who do not have children, I remember them today too, and how they may or may not be feeling. So, when two mothers put on our group chat, “Happy Mother’s Day,” I didn’t reply as there are women in our group who do not have children and they are not married.
We are all at different stages in our ‘journey’ of life.
