Over the years, whenever a sales person has told me, "No you can not have a refund because you have just seen it for a cheaper price." Having just bought the item 10 minutes before, I have not argued with them. I just went straight to Trading Standard. Within the hour they sorted it for me, and I got my refund.
Also over the years, when I have seen the price in the store, like buy 2 get one free, having then taken all three to the tills, only to be told, "That offer finished yesterday." I said, "That is the price I am paying today, it is the law." They too know the law, and after a short discussion, I paid for my two items and got the third free.
Today after work, I went to my local superstore, to the reduced section and I saw the smoked boneless haddock, I am off tomorrow and thought, that is breakfast for tomorrow sorted. With my trolley I went to self service, as I like to have enough time to see the prices that is ringing up at the tills to make sure I get the reductions, as sometimes the reduced stickers don't cover the full price barcode.
I check each item before I scan it, to make sure all is correct, the last item that I scanned came up as potato croquettes, £1.37 then the screen locked and said, help is on its way. I called the staff over and said, "I have not bought croquettes," He said, "What was the last item that you scanned?" I pointed to the smoked haddocks. He picked them up looked at it and the price, it was priced at reduced to £1.37, he said, "I can't let you have this item, it has the wrong price on it." I said, "I am buying it at that price, it is the law." He smirked at me and said, "What law is that?" I, taken off guard said, "British law."
He then spoke through his headset, at his mouth and then said to me, "I have spoken to my Manager and he has said, we can not sell you this item, because it the the wrong food that is on the sticker." I repeated myself, "I am paying for that item at £1.37." He then said, "Would you like to talk to the Manager?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Ok, he will be five minutes." I replied, "That's fine I will wait. As I waited, I took pictures of my locked screen." The first Staff member was watching me.
The Manager arrived, they were not near me, so I could not hear what they were saying, then I saw him peel off the reduced sticker! That annoyed me slightly, as now they were altering things, and it would not be as I had seen it.
The Manager and the first staff them came over to me, and he said, "This is not the correct sticker for this item, we did not put this on," I replied, "Neither did I." He said, "I was not implying that you put the sticker on, but a child maybe had." It was clear to all three of us, that a child had not reduced the price to £1.37, for we could see the other 2 reduced stickers underneath this one, where it had been reduced througout the day.
The Manager said, "We are not allowed to sell you this item, as it does not match the food." I said, Your staff had asked me what law I was on about, well I remember now, The Trading Standards Law, and IF that £1.37 sticker was on a car, the law says I can buy it for that price."
The Manager then through his headset spoke to another staff, then he said, to me, "Another staff will be coming, she can reduce the price for you," I said, "OK." A woman came, again away from me, the three of them talked.
Then the three of them came over to me, and the first staff with a sticker on his finger, that the woman had printed out, he said, to me, "The lowest we can reduced it to is, £1.89," I said, "No, I am paying, £1.37!" Then without hesitation, he then scanned the sticker that was on his finger, and I saw it come up on the screen £1.37. The Manager said, "You can have it for £1.37," I replied, "Thank you." I thanked all three staff and paid my bill.
Apparently the four smoked haddocks were worth £8.75. Back home, I put them into four sandwich bags and put stickers on them, with date froze. Paul said, "When all four of us are home, I will do us all fish and chips."
He does the Best fish and chips.
