Anyone who has had cats will know they bring home gifts. Why do they do that? Why don’t they just enjoy their catch in the garden? Its an age old question.
I have six cats, all different, all outside and inside cats. So most of them are in at night, it’s nice when they are all in, especially when it is freezing outside. Usually, it is Hotel who is outside, and waiting for me first thing in the morning at the window, for his breakfast.
I love the routine of family life with, dogs, and cats. Six days ago, this routine was shattered when Clarence appeared at the window with a dead, very posh looking pigeon. I told my husband Paul and he went out and took the bird of him. Paul is not frightened of anything dead, he brought it into the house and said, “It’s got a ring around its leg.” Paul wrapped the bird up and put him in the bin outside.
I was sad, that the bird didn’t make it home, and sad for the owner of the bird, who was now missing one.
Paul said, “Clarence found it, because it is very cold.” I said, “That’s because it is cold outside.” We didn’t know where Clarence would have found this beautiful bird.
Then to my horror as I sat on the sofa, two nights ago, Clarence again came to the window with another grey speckled white posh looking bird, dead in his mouth! It couldn’t be saved. I said to Paul, “Leave him with it, so he can get it out of his system.” I added, “He didn’t find that one, he knows where they live.” Which is a shame, for one, he will bring another one home to us, and two the bird owner may set a trap for Clarence!
Yesterday morning when I got up, the same bird that I let him keep to get it out of his system was ripped open on our back door step! Poor little thing. What an awful way to die, by a cat. All cats, those who live in our homes, flats farms and strays are classed as wild animals.
I wish I could sit Clarence down and say to him, “Don’t bring anymore home, we are not impressed, we don’t love you any more or less, you life could be in danger,” But I don’t speak cat, nor does Clarence speak English.
I fear, there will be a number three, four, five, six, seven etc soon.

This reminded me of a cat I
This reminded me of a cat I once had who would bring home frogs in its mouth. It broke my heart as frogs scream, and they're also poisonous if in the mouth for too long.
I don't have any pets now, can't go through the trauma and worry anymore, and cats are so independent arn't they? Hope you manage to stop Clarence.
Jenny.

One of my previous cats was
One of my previous cats was quite a hunter and used to bring home her trophies, and we always knew what was coming because she used to let out this primeval caterwaul when she brought something in. It was quite unlike her usual meow, and quite a chilling sound. My remaining cat very occasionally brings in a shrew or field mouse, but they're always alive and unharmed. She wants to play with them, but the mouse is never that keen, can't imagine why! I then have to rescue the poor thing and give the cat a good talking-to.
