I had a phone call yesterday; it was from a friend who I used to work with for many years. Julia had left work for another job, over a year ago.
Julia said, “Have you heard that Lousia is leaving? If you haven’t, don’t say anything.”
I replied, “No I hadn’t heard, but I will say nothing.” We sent more texts backwards and forwards. After the conversation I smiled to myself. She had been told by someone from work, and that person had said to Julia, “Don’t say anything.” She had replied, “No I won’t.” She trusts me, and know that my reputation is, never to gossip, but to keep it to myself. The buck stops with me!
I then thought of one person who I could tell. But I trust no one, I knew that if I told him, he would do what Julia had done. I knew he would either keep it to himself, or tell another who he trusts. That was yesterday, and today, and in the past, when someone asks, “Who told you?” They will never hear those words, “It was Maxine.”
It also made me realize that, everyone has a friend, who they trust.
