Sports Day.

I heard they have banned it now, due to the parents’ behaviour, but while my children were young, I went to all their sports day! Amongst the crowd, Daniel and Meghan could hear me shouting their names, spurring them on. All their young lives I have said to them about the sports day, “Aim to come first, if not second, if not third.” I remember doing the wheelbarrow race with Daniel, (a parent and a child) And as he is big and strong, we came first!
Two famous men go back a long way, they do not like each other. They are now fathers, and their have past on their dislike for the other man to their sons.
Because of Daniel, I saw the run up to the son’s big hyped-up fight. The one son, I had not heard of, the other son I had heard of because he has the same name as his famous dad.
The name Conor Benn before this week, meant nothing to me, in fact to me, the two names don’t seem to go together. Now the name Chris Eubank, I know very well! So, to hear the name Chris Eubank Jr. the name speaks for itself.
The run up to the fight, they spoke to each other and to the press.
Conor and his dad were there and the rapport was fantastic. Chris Eubank Jr said, “My dad fell out with me, and we have not spoken for many years, for me that is real pain, for I idolised him, and looked up to him.” I thought that was SO sad. We didn’t know what it was that caused his dad not to want nothing to do with him, and not to be at his big fight. I really felt for him, and because of that, I wanted him to win! I have always like Chris Eubank and his eccentric ways.
Dads are very important. Dads are important to their daughters and to their sons. It was sad to know that Chris Eubank Jr would not have his dad with him.
We don’t have Sky so yesterday Daniel asked, “Can I pay to watch the fight Mum, it is £20 and I will give you the money back, when I get paid?” I replied, “Yes, no problem.” With a click, it was bought, so from early on, he watched various boxing matches live from London’s football ground.
Paul, Daniel, myself, and young Darius settled down to watch the big fight at 10pm. Darius wasn’t really watching it, as he was on his mobile phone.
Conor Benn came out first to the huge crowd, I said, “No one has mentioned their Mums.” Daniel said, “Tonight is about dads.” I had to agree and said, “I would be too nervous to watch my son live, I would have to stay at home.”
Then as the lift doors opened, out came Chris Eubank Jr with his dad, Chris Eubank! It was fantastic to see!! We were thrilled in our lounge. When they came into the main section into the arena the crowd there were thrilled too. As usual Chris Eubank with his odd-looking coat, didn’t disappoint, but it did not matter to young Chris, as his hero was right close by.
The match was fantastic. I really wanted Chris Eubank Jr to win, to do his dad proud. It would have been awful if he lost!
The match was too tense, the younger boxer at the start was in the lead.
I was shouting at the telly; it was almost too difficult to watch. I wanted a knockout, from young Chris, to make it clear to the judges that he was the winner!
The knockout didn’t come, and both men were very tired, Chris had a cut on his face, and the blood was on the referee’s shirt.
It went to all the twelve rounds, no one really knew who had won, I had hoped against hope that it was young Chris.
The verdict was numinous from the Judges and Chris Eubank Jr was declared the winner!
We were all thrilled in our home. His dad at the end spoke. The reporter also asked young Chris, “Did it make a difference to you that your dad was here?” With a smile, he said, “yes.”
Now that is what I would call, the ultimate sports day.
