My favourite film is called, The Hurricane. I watched it may years ago, by accident. I was getting ready for bed, and as I went in and out of the room, downstairs the telly was still on, and slowly but surely it got my attention. I sat down and watched it. It made be cry. It was on late, I was too tired to watch it to the end, so I asked my Husband to, “Record the second half for me.” I watched the second half the following evening, and did wonder if the rest would be a riveting as the first half. It didn’t disappoint. I cried even more in the second and last part. It IS my favourite film of all time. I don’t ever plan to watch it again; I have only seen it once! Once is enough. Far too painful to watch again.
In history, there has been amazing films that has gripped me, like Schindler’s List, I watched that at the cinema, they asked us before the film started to, “Move into the middle seats, so that every seat can be filled, as many are outside, still wanting to come in.” At the end, no one moved, all the credits went up and stopped! The only thing that could be heard was sniffs.
Decades ago, while I still lived at home, I watched a film called, Escape from Sobibor. I remember it finished at 11.45pm I went upstairs to my box bedroom and knelt by my bed and cried for 15 minutes. Only a few years ago, I was speaking to someone, who said she had done exactly the same thing that I did at the end of the film.
I was watching a film, many years ago, on my own, it had an odd title, I can’t remember it, I know it was American, and at the end, I cried more than any film that I have ever watched in my whole life! That I would love to watch again, but I don’t know what it is called. Nor can I remember what it was about.
I love the film, Sleepers; it is about revenge! The revenge is very good at the end. Sometimes, that does not happen enough in real life. Everyone seems to get away with it all!
I remember growing up, watching injustice on the news in one particular country. When a new leader came to power, I thought finally there will be justice for her people, but forgiveness was asked by the leader for all instead. I was gutted! It was the right decision.
My husband’s best friend, his father was a prisoner of war in a camp. What he endured, he hated that country and its people all of his life.
If someone had said to me, to me “The Hurricane is about a boxer, do you want to come and watch it at the cinema with me?” I would have replied, “No, thank you.” And yet, that is what the film is about, and injustice.
There was nothing else on, one day this week, so I decided to watch, Unbroken, it was too early for me to go to bed. If someone had said to me, “It is about a runner, would you like to come to the cinema to watch it with me?” I would have replied, “No, thank you.”
I watched this film, from almost the start, I think. I missed how they ended up on the water, the three of them, but I saw it from then. I was riveted! It was very, very good and then it got amazing!
There are many other titles that could be given to this film, Unbroken, Resilient, Strength, and my personal favourite, The Human Spirit.
The film is based on a true story and what this man went through, at one point I thought he had died! But no, he lived through that. He is amazing.
I watched to the end, and decided, this was going to be my second favourite film, and like, The Hurricane, I will never watch it again. Later when I wrote about it in my diary, I did shed a tear or two, but not during the film. At the end, it did seem unfair! The film, was SO good I gave it a 10 out of 10.
Unbroken, The Human Spirit.
