Vegan Chicken.

Today, I was walking home with my shopping something caught my eye from one of the shops, it said Vegan Mexican Chicken free bake. I had to stop, and re-read it again. As it did not make any sense to me. How, can a vegan food item have the word chicken in it? Surely that would be a bad word to attach that to anything vegan.
In my opinion, they should not steal the word chicken and add it to their non chicken ‘food.’ A vegan person, does not eat chicken. I will add here, there is nothing wrong with been vegan, good for them, I say!
What would a vegan person say, if I had a shop, and put on a big poster, and advertised, Vegan Chicken pie. What would the vegans think when they ate their Vegan Chicken Pie, and found out it was 100% chicken?
Would there be uproar? I would hope not, I would simply say, “You stole the word chicken and added it to your vegan Mexican pie, and I simply did the same, I stole the word vegan.” They would not have a leg to stand on!
McDonalds’s now have a plant-based burger. My mind, cannot begin to process a plant burger.
In the reduced section of my local Tesco, there are SO many plants based ‘foods’ When I pick it up and look at it to buy it, I put it back and look at a different item. I like to buy reduced treats for our six cats and two dogs, but I am sure they would not thank me for giving them a treat, that is a plant and not meat, that would not be a treat for them, I would be classed as a bad Mother!
But, each to his or her own. We all do what is best for us, for health and principles, and there is nothing wrong with that.
I have found, the ‘modern food,’ is more expensive. It is true, you are, what you eat.
I often think, of people, who I knew before, and they are now not with us, my god-mother, if I was to say to her, she was ninety-two when she died, “We now have for sale, vegan chicken and plant-based burgers and food.”
She would not know what I was talking about.
At this rate, by the time my grandson is old, half the world, will be eating a small round tablet, with a whole meal inside it! The other half will be a breatharian!

Have to say I agree with you,
Have to say I agree with you, yet have been Vegan decades before all this new stuff :0) What worries me is that it is NOT healthy AT ALL. Food can only pretend to be what it is not if it has been changed a lot, or processed. Processed food is not good for anyone. Good vegan food is the traditional popular recipes from countries with a long history of cooking with beans/peas/lentils, either for religious reasons (like Greece) or because they have always been more affordable than animal based food (everwhere with a good Summer!). Only since having the internet have I discovered so many yummy recipes from around the world, which are easy to cook and don't need weird ingredients. These new vegan products are all about packaging and processing and profit not what is really important - taste and nutrition and price!

Ya Di-H.... its a lifestyle*.... IMO... is hard for many people to capture that, in a practically applied sense...
I get some flak from the homeboyz/crew, so to speak.. more of a polite fun tease +++
& then a few serious questions 1 on 1.... I always smile, shake my head... & tell em'..... watch the documentary "The Game Changers".... & then ask me some questions......
Good Observation MJG.... IMO.... there's a gravity shift com'n in diets... I think we're in the 1st phase, public awareness, product & marketing & plant based product innovation wise..... unless you've been in it a while like DI-H & myself... All Good... 'really enjoyed this piece'...
