You Just Could Not Fake It.

I watched Crufts this year, not all of it just a few snippets here and there.
Over the years I have watched it, and whenever I have watched it, I have always enjoyed it. I even went there one year with my dog lover husband.
This year I watched the dogs do the relay race; they were SO fast! I also saw the dog doing CPR, even though at one point he was very low down from her heart, but it was still lovely to see such a clever dog.
I watched the agility race, and the five points that was often taken off for not going in the correct order, or cutting corners, because speed was key.
I saw a very large dog and a small dog. I always have a soft spot for the Bichon Frise, as we had one before as a pick of the litter pup, called Ruth.
Although I saw many dogs over the course of the night, one caught my attention. And really, it is very difficult to pick one out of all the hundreds of dogs there, from around the world, all competing for that one major prize.
For me, only One dog stood out. The thing is with a dog, some things you just can’t fake, and that is happiness.
All the dogs had to be handled and touched and teeth checked and bones felt. For those who were in their own specialist groups down to the last seven. And from that seven they would be a winner. Then the judges would go onto another specialist group, like a toy dog. So, in each group there would be a winner.
Then on the final day of the greatest dog show, the winner of all of the dogs would be looked at from the mini winners, that had been throughout the event, would be chosen.
In the past when I have watched Crufts I have seen cute, or strong or different looking dogs and I would pick who I would want to win, but usually the one I wanted to win didn’t.
But this year, to me there was a clear winner, she was just SO lovely, so adorable, so sweet, I just loved this dog! I just wanted to take her home.
What was it about this dog, that I loved so much? It was her lovely wagging tail! She was just a happy dog, she didn’t wag her tail for the camera, for she didn’t know the cameras was on her, for even when the camera wasn’t on her, her tail was still wagging. When she was been checked over by the all-important Judge, it was her big moment, but she didn’t know it, she was just her happy self. She was happy, happy, happy. She was a joy to behold. I just loved her.
I said, to my husband, “I really want her to win!” Yes, she was a winner in her own right, in the gundog section, but I wanted her to win the whole thing.
Then the moment arrived, the day of judgement, her tail was going, but really, no dog lover could not have past her by, the Judge did, to look at all the other dogs, in the finals. The dog that was just herself, enjoying her day, like she does every day, it was she who won Crufts! I just clapped and clapped and clapped from my telly at home.
She is Orca, a four year old curly coated Lagotto Romagnolo, she is the first dog of that breed to win at Crufts.
I am so pleased for her and her owner, a massive congratulations to them both. xXx
