Summer

Turn me around, spin me, lift me up
Swirl my dress around my legs, feel the grass against my feet, kiss me on my cheek, my chin, stroke the soft skin of my arm
Tender whispering wind, the rushes by the river are bending over and touching their faces to the water
Ducks are swimming and laughing in circles that are beautiful and quiet
The sun spirals and catches creating rainbows creating keyholes and pocketfuls of light creating beauty all around all around me
Tall grasses murmur and chase they are chasing the wind but they cannot they will never catch him he is too fast for them
Seeds fly in the air, fly to the ground, drift amongst weeds, the bright flowers look like stars here in the green of the field they shine like brightly coloured beads on a soft green cloak
Somewhere in the deepest dark of the quiet still river there are fish I know they are there but I cannot see them they are too dark too dark to see
But he is stiller than I and he can catch them; he points out to me the colours on their watery skin, the silver drops that fall to the ground and melt into dry earth
He lets them go again they are never hurt they swim free they swim quickly to freedom
The freckles from the summer decorate my skin I feel like I am a part of this field a part of nature all fresh and sun drenched and brown with freckles these freckles are my summer skin
The softness of my dress I feel it billow and drift the wind catches it if I were lighter than air I could let go and I would float away
Float away
My summer here let it last forever let it never end like the longest day when the quiet of the evening stretches into infinity the light never quite fading let it be like that
Let it never end
I drift I float with the wind and the grasses swirling around me I spin and I dance with him he is here with me and I shall never let him go we are one together with the earth and the sundrenched summer sky the dry grass the reeds that kiss the water we are one
We are one this summer
