101 Great Goals

The person you used to drink champagne with

now cries himself to sleep and you carry on regardless.

and 101 Great Saves. Which one you watch

depends what kind of mood you're in.

Sometimes all that matters in life is that the goalie makes a save

but then the goalkeeper gets older and you're not there

when his wife leaves him and he gets ill

and even if he's given the all clear there aren't thousands of fans

cheering as he gets the results, their arms in the air

When we realised the pub exactly halfway between your house

and mine  was the nicest pub in town it showed how perfectly

everything was going but people you share happy moments with

look out the window, bored, even though their glass

still has some Champagne in it and we could go out and get another bottle

but look at your face you're so bored and you don't want to be here anymore

have you ever looked close up at a butterfly they're so beautiful

but have you ever tried to keep one as a pet?

You realise this is loss again.

You knew it wouldn't last forever, nothing does, that's been made

abundantly clear and you're back at home and most of the goalkeepers

who made those 101 great saves are probably dead now

and no-one even watches videos anymore.
