My grandparents were religious
and sometimes I think if I sat on my bedroom floor
hands together, eyes closed, there's a chance
things will go my way.
But the thing about praying,
they used to tell us at Sunday School,
is that it cannot be selfish
it needs to be for other people
the disabled lady at 22
the partially sighted lady who works in the bakery
children in war torn countries
so I am just sitting here on my the floor in the dark
hands together, cross legged
saying I just hope that we meet one day in the supermarket
both of us buying dishwasher tablets
I don't dare ask for anything beyond that.

Just discovered your writing
Just discovered your writing - the sensational weaving together of the maudlin, the moving and the mundane that is both entertaining and weighty at once. You undoubtedly take the prize as the only poet in history to write a love poem with dishwasher tablets in the title. Bravo!
