Flowers are so expensive

'Half price for sad people' said the sign on the window

and the queue was all the way down Unthank Road.

To make their money back the florist charged double

for happy people and the happy people were delighted

to pay. They didn't really notice. They were too busy

looking forward to yet more beautiful moments,

'You'd have thought our luck would have run out by now,

but it hasn't,' they text each other on their new phones.

'I don't feel sad or happy,' I explain to the nice florist.

'That's how I feel too,' the florist says and tells me

about her daughter who is fine in Leicester

and I say I don't normally buy flowers

but I'd quite like some in a vase

because I've just bought a new table.
