I've got a good game going on up here

The tube jerks like an old man waking.
The lights go out and after half an hour
we still have not moved and people become restless
as their ipod batteries die
and one hundred feet above ground
missed calls and unread emails zap around
like rush hour traffic.
Our eyes adjust to the light but not enough
to read free papers
or novels that stay in people's hands,
a thumb in the right page, waiting
for normal service to resume.
And people say to no-one in particular things like
'This is ridiculous'
and tanoys apologise to people missing meetings,
that if you had a table booked for 2.30
Malcom will be sipping Claret on his own
glancing at his watch.
And suddenly everyone will turn to me
as I illuminate like the clock at Waterloo.
They see me smiling, my face fill with laughter lines
and I tap my head and say
"I've got a good game going on up here."
