You had such a nice nose

I used to have nice eyes

I'd get compliments once a fortnight

and I remember my dad once saying

he was good at football at my age

as we ran around the back garden

only stopping when he got a stitch

and my mum would stand in the kitchen

shouting mind the windows mind the windows

then she'd apologise there was nothing exciting for dinner

she'd just ran out of time and ideas

and one by one my friends stopped drinking

and their kids are too heavy for my shoulders now

and for almost two years there wasn't a single play

in London we hadn't been to and have you noticed

waiters and waitresses don't smile

when you say thank-you anymore.
