Broken Down Car
By Paul McCann
Driving my car, enjoying the ride ,
came to a stop , pulled to the side
pushing it up hill in the transit lane ,
looked at the sky as it started to rain
have mercy Lord I’m stuck on my own ,
here in a broken down car a long long way from home
A broken down car won’t get you far ,
a mean machine is a broken down car ,
you know what I mean,
you won’t get very far in a broken down car
In the peak hour flow in a broken down car ,
I pushed on regardless but I didn’t get far .
Its hard when you’re lost
and you’ve no idea where you are
You can scream all you like but it won’t get you far ,
the moon came out and I wished on a shooting star ,
tow trucks passed me doing 100 miles an hour
A broken down car won’t get you far ,
a mean machine is a broken down car ,
you know what I mean,
you won’t get very far in a broken down car .
I pushed all day and I broke my backbone ,
on the shoulder of the road a long way from home,
I can’t get to sleep and I don’t have a mobile phone
In a broken down car in the middle of the night
.things will look different in the morning light
and my broken down car will somehow be all right
A broken down car won’t get you far ,
a mean machine is a broken down car ,
you know what I mean,
you won’t get very far in a broken down car
