Case Scenario Of Miss Green's New Home rules
Before Mrs Green had her accident she was a music teacher and a dressmaker. Now at 27 she is disabled and a resident of a shared dwelling .
Before her accident she had always spoken about how clumsy she was and how she hated housework .
Her ability now to do simple activities have given a new meaning to the word frustration but she had learned to love and laugh again in a different way .
In common with other residents she is not able to do the normal everyday things in life like playing the piano or walking more than five foot steps unassisted . She is trying to remember the words of the songs she once enjoyed but she can hum along with some of the singsongs in rehabilitation groups .
At nights when it is quiet and she is in bed alone she thinks and talks to herself and pretends to be as busy as she used to be . At times she can escape there where her imagination can run free .
Some of the her carers gave support and made time to report what they had observed . They realised that Miss Green was not as disabled as she seemed and they asked for a further reassessment of her condition with a view to more independant living .
As her mental confusion seemed to be clearing certain professional people began to give hints on how best to manage her condition. A new routine was now applied to every day and night.
After a visit to her home at weekends it was decided her parents were unable to care for her in that domestic situation and another assessment had to be made for Miss Green.
After explaining her needs she was ready to leave hospital for a residency in a community home with a large number of disabled people .
Once she was settled in to that situation a strict rehabilitation was put into place in order to provide a better recovery and independence in her life .
She seemed top enjoy having her hair done before breakfast and the morning staff at the home noticed an improvement in her behaviour .
Miss Green had to readapt her life after an accident left her with a mental and physical disabilities . After the long road to her rehabilitation she was permitted to live in a half way house set up allocated to reintroduce her to living unassisted in the community . After three years as a resident in the community home three people were granted joint tenancies in a new flat that would allow more independence in their lives .
Because there would be challenges returning to this independence the disabilities support team put together a set of home rules that would have to be followed in order to share the combined space peacefully without stress .
This new situation also required a daily visit from a support worker to do simple tasks for the household . The tasks of shopping , cleaning and cooking were shared between the support worker and the residents of the flat .
With a set of new house rules Miss Green was not only able to manage her life better but it allowed her to be herself and rediscover life in an independent fashion .
The list was compiled and placed in different places around the flat for all the residents to read .

In order that afternoon and evening hours be made less hectic residents must follow a routine for having baths or showers . Regular support workers will be made available for all hygiene needs .
Burn up your extra energy with regular exercise programs that include assisted leg and arm lifts . Do not attempt to walk unassisted .
Due to previous falls the wearing of hard hats during any assisted walks must be used .
During the night support workers will be on duty to promote a stress free environment promoting unbroken sleep patterns .
Before bed no snacks or beverages with caffeine . The use of incontinence pads will continue to be used .
The provision of regular activities each day aiming to promote quality of life . Target areas will involve music and group therapy sessions .
A regular noise free controlled area in the flat must be adhered to at all times . One allocated sound room at the rear of the building will be available day or night for anyone who is in need of personal space .
Each evening there will be a group meeting to discuss the events of the day and raise any concerns with the disability support workers.
Regular consultations with doctors and medication reviews will be provided by the support team in order to prevent or assist in the areas of depression , or physical problems that might daily lifestyle programs
The use of a bedpan or commode is encouraged with each person before going to bed and also while in bed .
To reduce residents confusion keep all areas well lit and provide positive living attitudes that will prevent all residents from becoming agitated in their new unfamiliar surroundings.
At this stage this program of daily living will be updated regularly in order to assist all residents attain a better way of managing their daily affairs and also assist those who are caring for those who are disabled .
