According to legend more than 2500 years ago Jason and the Argonauts began a sporting event in Olympia . Back then there were no gold medals
for winning . No it was just a social event were men could show off their superior speed , strength , tamina and physic amongst others.
Todays modern Olympic games were the brainchild of Frenchman Pierre De Coubertin and now in the 21st Century the Olympic games have become the
biggest multi-sport event in the world .
Thinking of how long the games have been around, its great to see the competitive spirit of today's games still carry on with the same flame
that Jason had originally sparked in Olympia way back in 776BC .
Today's preparations for the London Olympics are of course underway with the focus on the importance of sport on today's youth .
It was interesting how a Red London Bus drove around the track at the closing ceremony in the Birds Nest Stadium in Bejing .
The atmospherre was electric as the Mayor ofondon recieved the Olympic Flag and offically then London became the next city to host the games .
The spirit of the games is still alive and well .
That spirit will lift another flame in London in 2012 and that message has never been more essential than in the hope for tomorrows youth .
The flame will be carried to London and expectations in London will be high .
China is a hard act to follow but between now and then millions of pounds will be spent to decorate the City .
Computer software experts will no doubt arrange video game terminals for the visitors to play on as well as access new versions of sporting
games .
Thousands of extra public phones will need to be installed across London .
Millions of pounds of advertising and huge posters with programs to encourage the youth in London to get involved with sport will present
themselves I'm sure .
The need for new methods of transport and traffic congestion will need to be addressed on an hourly basis . Transporting people to and from the Stadium will of course be a major concern to the Olympic officials .
They should be right on to that from day one .
Millions of pounds will be spent on the up grade of Tube networks and The London Taxi and Bus system . London will be ablaze in new uniforms
with railway ticket collectors , taxi-drivers and bus drivers .
Then there will be the need to build major roads in and out of the city
, to and from the Stadium .
In relation to food and drink there will need to be a huge undertaking
to cater for the wide variety of different cultures who will descend
upon London in 2012 .
Services as well for the athletes in relation to shuttle people , food
, and essential services
will have to be in order long before the games begin .
With over 197 nations competing in the London games security will need
to be high on the agenda . Just as a guestimate of the numbers that I
am talking about there will be at least half a million spectators , as
well as the 10,000 athletes and their families , 5000 Olympic officials
, and 15,000 members of the media .
As well as the security side of these all of these people will need to
have accommodation during their stay in London .
Then of course there will need to be entertainment .
Reggie no doubt will have bands in every corner of London . There will
be thousands of
voices along with full orchestras and small busking ensembles . There
will be huge productions getting ready with rehearsing everything for the opening ceremony .
Then what about God Save The Queen . I'm sure a lavish rendition will be heard .
Group of musicians will need to be practising every national anthem in the world so it will sound right on the day .
Millions of pounds will need to be spent on new clothes and uniforms for all the performers and the athletes .
As you can appreciate there will be no expense spared to dress up London for this fantastic occasion .
With youth as the focus no doubt school children will be putting on a display of dance and
other forms of art that will show the many aspects of London as a modern City .
Millions of pounds will be spent on fireworks displays and floral arrangements .
Guided tours for visitors will no doubt be on offer with a wide range of transport from limo's to topless double decker buses and horse and
carts . What an opportunity it will be for many people to see for the first time the night life around the West End and TheThames .
Many people who own private homes will probable rent out their properties for the duration of the games . It's amazing to think where are they going to find accommodation in London for everybody with the
numbers of homeless now exceeding millions .
While some parts of London are pretty other areas will need a new face .
So its time to clean up now long before the visitors arrive .
Community groups will be very organised with their working bees .
For the sake of English pride there will be teams of young and old people out picking up rubbish and putting on new coats of paint to their old and dulled out homes around London .
Maybe even some of the derelict and older buildings will need to be knocked down .
There will need to be new rubbish bins and new telegraph poles .
New city sights to be seen . New walls with no graffiti . New statues to be erected . New smiles and a new outlook on life .
So book your seats now for the London games
What a lot of love there will be .
2012 is coming . Even though the focus is on youth that doesn't mean everyone need's
to be young and free . Just because the event is all about sport it you don't necessarily have to be a sportsman or woman to enjoy it or to compete with others .
London is the venue , so on your marks and get set , lets go for games in 2012 .
THE END
