The Heart Of The Place We Call Home
By Paul McCann
I grew up in Ireland and found a loving community who believed in God and we all lived together in a community like a tribe and we supported each other in many different ways .
We had a purpose in life and we had virtues and beliefs that were the foundation stones of the place where we lived . The village where I grew up was a lot more than streets with houses, it was the great big heart that lived there among us and it reached out and connected us with other people in the village .
We were able to share and enjoy life through music , sport and spirituality .
We found strength that gave us an ability to accept change and courage to adapt to difficulty and hardship .
I remember as a child listening to older folk sharing some old stories about myths and legends of the past . All of those were gladly shared in a home or some other meeting place that brought benefits to all who had gathered there .
Stories and songs are often passed on from one generation to another or from one tribe to another . Our culture and heritage is like an infusion of blood in our veins . We live and breathe in the same air and with the same heartbeat we all tuned in to life and made the best effort we could to survive .
We were all part of a connection . The way we talked and though about things together as one . We could never be segregated .We were one community and we sung our songs and we danced and we told stories and fell in love and had families of our own . We are blended together with our history and our future in the heart of the place we call home .
The End
