If Only I was There

If I were there in Bethlehem so many years ago

I might have heard a baby cried and went to say hello

and if I went to visit him what gift would I have brought

to place before the precious child , Herod’s soldiers sought .

I might have brought a song to sing .

I might have brought a smile for him .

If only I was there .

If there was a way on that Christmas day

to praise his glorious name

I would have glorified the King of kings

the day he came ‘

If they asked me would I care to hold the child that day

I would have held him close to me and somehow tried to pray  .

I might have brought a song for to sing .

I might have brought a smile for him .

If only I was there .
