Chapter 2
The Empty Streets Of Nowhere
The morning sky was dressed in blue with cloudy patches here and there, where the sun chose to hide away now and then .
Dave stood on the platform at the railway station that was crowded with people waiting for the next train to arrive . In his hand he held the bag given to him by the lighthouse keeper.
As the train pulled into the station the automatic doors began open up . There was just enough time for everyone to get on board the carriages before the doors closed .
Dave was catching his breath when a young lady in the carriage said ,
“Out for the day then ?”
He replied
“Ah , well no, Actually I’m on a journey .”
She continued .
“So you’re a traveller .“
“Well, I suppose I’m more like a missing part of a puzzle .“
He said and she replied.
“That’s interesting , so what’s the puzzle .”
He replied .
‘It’s like I’m not in control of where I’m going and connected to people and places where I’ve never been or seen before and I don’t know where it’s all going to end . “
“Wow , that’s awesome .”
She said .
Another passenger overheard and said ,
“Hey, my name is Mac , can I join in with your conversation ?”
“Sure Mac . I’m Dave .“
I’m Susan and I love music”.
The lady said .
Someone else in the carriage overheard and took out a fender guitar from its case and he began play a song called Homeward Bound and people in the carriage started to sing along . When the song was finished . He started playing another song called ,
“ Peace Train “
Passengers applauded and it sounded like all the passengers in every carriage of the train were singing together .
The singing continued and at the next stop Dave got off the train .
It seemed strange that he was the only person to get off . He watched the train as it rolled off down the tracks with the passengers still singing away.
As he walked out of the station, he saw no one was there to collect the tickets and in the streets of the town , no one was there as well .
In a short time, Dave came to a large fancy hotel near a beautiful park filled with tropical plants .
He noticed lots of murals and some graffiti art on the walls of the hotel .
Then as he went inside the front door of the hotel, he was surprised to find there was no one there at the reception . So, he called out ,
“Hello, is anyone there ?”
and no one responded .
He took the lift to the first floor and saw all of the doors were open with no one inside . Then he went up floor and found the same situation .
Each door to every room was open with no guest inside .
There were no guests and no staff anywhere to be found .
Dave had the entire hotel to himself . He was able to choose any room he wanted .
Even better still the kitchen and bar areas were fully stocked . He could eat and drink as much as he wanted .
Movies of his choice were available , there was a swimming pool , gymnasium , sauna and spa and even better at the front reception there were car keys on hooks that belonged to a fleet of hotel cars and vans .
It felt like everyone in the whole world had died and he was the last person alive .
Each day he drove different cars and went to different places and everywhere he went he saw no one .
The entire town was completely deserted . All the shops were
open but no one was there .
Dave had no reception on his mobile phone and was unable to reach out to anyone . He stayed in different rooms at the hotel and had never saw any one at any time .
After a week Dave decided to move on to the next station and as he was leaving there was a note at the front reception for him .
Dear Free Travel Pass Owner ,
We hope you enjoyed your stay at our hotel here in Nowhere and we
We look forward to seeing you again in Nowhere .
Dave took one of the hotel cats and drove to the railway station and waiting for a train to arrive
