As a poet for many years I am hopefully going to help to unlock those hidden thoughts in the depts of your subconsious .
Unlocking areas that our brain has filed away can be a great source of material for writing poetry ,
I just want to cast your mind back to things like schooldays and family evens . I know that you'll be surprised at what you may find locked away in your sub consious mind .
Unlocking Our Schooldays
Do you remember your first day at school ? Where you nervous ?
What did your school look like from outside or inside your classroom ?
Did you have home work? How many hours did it take you to do it ?
How well did you do in exams ?
Did you play up in school ? What did you do ?
Were you punished ?
Was there a teacher who made a difference to your life ? How ?
What was school excursion did you like most ?
What playground games did you play ? With who ?
Were you a school prefect or captain ?
Did you enjoy the role ?
Did you have good teachers ?
How did yougetto school ? Walk , bus , bicycle , car ?
Did you like you school uniform ?
Did you get stars in your book for good work ?
Try writing around these themes . Its amazing what you will be able to create .
Unlocking Memories of Family
What is your favourite game with the family ?
Are any of you musical or creative ?
Do you have any interests that are the same ?
What are they ?
Do you have the same sense of humour ?
Parents
Where did your parent meet ?
When did they marry ? Did they marry in a church ?
Have you heard any stories about their courting days ?
Did they own a car ? House ? Farm ? Business ?
Did you attend church regularly as a family ?
Brothers and Sisters
Were you an only child ?
Did you long for a brother or sister ?
Were you a twin ? Did you arrive first or second ?
Did you get on well with your brothers and/or sisters ?
Did you go to the same school together ?
Did you share a room together ?
Did you have to share the same bed ?
Did you have hand me down clothing ?
Cousins
Did you grow up with your cousins ?
Did you go on holidays together ?
Did you share things with your cousins ?
Did you have things in common with your cousins ?

What do you remember most about your grandparents ?
Did they have any little superstitions they acted on ?
What sort of work did they do ?

Where did they get married ?

What sort of transport did they have ?

What kind of clothes did they wear ?

Have you won any trophies or certificates ?
What is your favourite sport?

Are your parents enthusiastic and support you with your sport ?
What is the value of sport to you?
Have you made friends in sport ?
Do you compete together ?
Who is you favourite sports person ?
Do you have a good coach ?
Were you a natural ?
Do you prefer team sports or individual efforts?
What make-do equipment did you use with your sport?
These questions are designed to prompt you to open up your mind about who you are and identfying those people and moments in your life that will prompt a flow of inspiration and images into your creative mind .
Using this process will bring a huge wealth of stories and memories into your writing .
