Familiarity

Familiarity clings
Breath
forms droplets in the ether
Specks of dust
skin
hair
dirt
grimy flakes of human indulgence
encapsulated in a bubble
of nature’s making
Beyond control
too powerful
chaotic
And
a worried mind
may choose to compartmentalize
these wild elements
Weather inconsequential
but meaningful
when it suits us
or
justification
for our petty self-obsessions
Our world is small
and full
of mindless indignations
Injustice an imposing theme
no wonder
when the rain pours
it pours on us
and drenches us in life
that we refuse to know
It reminds us
of our lack of agency
And if we lay the blame on rain
it absolves us of responsibility
Just as
our pores absorb the nutrients we need
the minerals our skin
sucks in
and rehydrates us with its drips
This
nectar
of our earth sustaining life
facilitating human strife
and powering our self-destructive minds
becoming what is now called human kind
what kind of kind is this?
we’re all half-blind
And yet
we see enough to point and shame
we take what we can get
and still we blame
whomever or whatever plays the game
You’re not exempt
