Chapter Six: Learning Is A Bitch
Shadow had been laying next to her as she slept, her warmth made Euphoria wrestle with extreme laziness. "Wake up sleeping beauty." "Sarcasm noted, but thanks for the compliment..." "Whatever, just get ready." "Ready for what?" "Your first lesson."
"What time is it?" "Dawn." "Son of a bitch..." "Son of a bitch, sir." Confused, she raised her finger to point out a couple things, but was interrupted. "I'm your teacher, remember that." Reluctantly she fully awoke and brushed her teeth, ate some left over venison she summoned. She saw books on a crudely built table, and wondered how long he stayed up making it.
"What do we need books for?" "Magic is based on words not speech, so books help to learn whats inside." "What a rip off-" "Fine, then I won't teach you to perform spells." Vincent left, knowing she'd read it by herself to convince him to teach her. He went off to chop wood, and make Euphoria arrows. You know... As a reward... Not because he was beginning to like her, yeah... That could never happen, like building a table at three in the morning for her...
As Euphoria read basic incantations, and tried to remember them all. she began to get bored and sleepy. That was until she read something that should've been in the first page. "You need not learn each spell word for word. Low level spells are customizable, but trickier. Divine and hell magic do not abide by these rules, unless you are of either descent."
Feeling peeved about remembering spells word for word for a couple of hours. She decided to surprise him and adlib, maybe then he'll reconsider bailing after a small disagreement.
She read on that magic flows inside all of us, though some magic is restricted to mortals. Thus given to them by a deity or demon, some are even forbidden to the gods themselves. She skipped the chapters on summoning, until... "Blood magic?" blood magic or anything that needs tribute is dark magic, forbidden to the divines and a requirement for hell magic.
Two hours after reading the differences of magic and their laws, she sought him out. He had been near a waterfall, helping a wounded deer. "You took longer than expected. I guess reading isn't your forte." Light of the world, light that won't fade, illuminate my path." A small flickering light appeared above her head then vanished quickly. "You know... If you waited for actual knstructions after apologizing... Well, maybe your first spell wouldn't have ben such a failure."
She slumped her shoulders in disappointment, blushing in embarrassment. "Low level magic is trickier than high level, because for it to be optimized... Well it neds to rhyme and not repeat, sounds lame, I know." He had used a healing spell on the deer, and Euphoria tried once more.
"Light above guide my path, illuminate away from the wrath of my plight." Just then the forest lit up casting away every shadow. "Well done... Perfect actually. A lot more powerful than most have ever accomplished." He was astonished by the power of one of her simple spells.
"Really? Maybe it was the words I used." "No... There's something special about you, and not in the romantic way. I have never seen such a weak and basic spell maximized!" After he stopped being awestruck, he explained that she can now use it anytime, after chanting.
"What about offensive spells?" Then an ominous wind blew through the trees. "I suddenly dont like the air here, take out your bow." The pace became almost pitch dark, and everything in a one mile radius froze in time. "I see you waste your time like any other mortal."
Vincent stepped in between Euphoria and Antares. "Euphoria, who is this?!" A tall blonde man in an Armani suit stood before him. "Antares... I think. I don't know why he's in human form." The blonde man removed his sunglasses to reveal his red eyes.
"Demon!" Vincent pushed her aside and attempted to slash him. Antares was just two strong an opponent, and caught the blade with two fingers. After breaking the sword, he transformed his right arm into a claw.
"I just came from a meeting and only wanted to talk... But it seems you want to do batlle." "What's a demon like you want to talk us!" Vincent kept shielding her, to protect her at all costs. "Not us. Her. Step aside half elf." Vincent bit his thumb hard enough to bleed, and swiped it on his other palm. Out came a burning sword, radiating a holy light.
"So you want to play? Didn't mommy ever teach you that gambling is bad?" Vincent charged full of rage. "How dare you speak of her!" Euphoria pleaded for him to stop, but it was too late. Antares had made clones of himself, as vincent wasted energy slashing the wrong ones. Antares surrounded him with clones and shot electricity at vincent. As the clones linked the attack, and trapped him in a vortex.
The pain was so unbearable, he blacked out. "Pathetic weakling. I made clones to divide my strength, a real vortex would kill him." "So why are you here?" "Simple. Our contract says I find and return them for my freedom. Where they are it's impossible-" "Then why the fuck did you accept?!"
"To get to by myself. Dont interrupt." He began to intimidate her with his ice cold glare. "I need an army, so I met with the general of the armed forces. After crushing his defenses, that is." "What did he say?"
"'God bless America' and emptied his clip in my head." Euphoria began to apply medical techniques on Vincent. Who moaned in pain due to shocks per every heartbeat. "That makes no sense." "He would not wage war on the God, nor the heavens." Euphoria summoned elixirs, but drinking it only slowed the pain. "Your mother was abducted by God himself, dont ask me why." "Why?"
"If I bloody knew, I'd fucking tell you." "So that's it then? You come here to spit rubbish and fatally injure my mentor?!" "Exactly. I call it: Relaying information on a tuesday. Regardless, tend to the weakling. My schedule's pretty tight and I have to leave." With flash and a thunderous noise, he was gone.
