Life as I knew it was a Community Shop Manager for an adult hospice charity.
A retail business in a local town, purely for fundraising purpose, run by myself and 12 dedicated, trusty volunteers , whose contribution was valued and essential for the day to day operation of " Our Lovely Emporium " Local gossip and banter, part of our everyday life. Service with a smile for our generous customers who supported us with a pound or two and would leave with a quality bargain in return. "Out Of Towners" on a day trip to browse for a shopping bag full of goodies from the 13 different charity shops littered up and down the High Street, bringing with them "New Faces" and "Outside" tales to tell.
Life as I know it now. Redeployed.. still with a purpose to fulfil. Temporarily departed from my street community to lend a helping hand at the very place I would provide profit for funding. The hospice has had to stand down many vital volunteers, our life blood, because of age and risk factor to this Pandemic. However... " End Of Life " still requires many helping hands and compassion on a daily basis. So here am I , along with all of my colleagues from our various shops and donation centre, stepping in to do laundry, gardening, cleaning, flower arranging, serve patient meals, storytelling. Lend an ear to a patients tale or two of their lives. Such amazing individuals will soon depart from the tick tick of time, yet there is no end here.. Just a place where they leave their story.

This is lovely to hear. Hope you do get satisfaction as well as providing help and love.
We are in a position of being 'locked out!' of the care home where we had daily visited mother-in-law (100). She had opened up emotionally in recent years and seemed rather clinging to our visits. We had always encouraged her to look to God's constant comfort, but hadn't anticipated we would one day suddenly not be able to go in, and her hearing and memory are very poor for understanding the staff's explanation of the cirumstances. However, the hard-pressed staff seem to be doing well, and we were sent a video clip of her receiveing one of our emailed cards, with brief big-print explanation and a photo of us, and it was lovely to see her undistressed, and talking about us as if she had still seen us in person.
