Freedom
She knows in her heart she has to leave, when love dies and there's
nothing left
It's the only thing to do.
No amount of pleading and begging can turn the clock back
To what he sees as happier times, when he thought she loved him.
He is so desperate to keep her by his side he is blinded to the
fact
That she is a human too; she has needs, needs that can't be met by him
anymore
If he loves her as he says he does, he will see this and though his
heart is breaking
Will let her walk away unhindered.
He can't see that the more he tries to make her love him the more she
wants to leave
The only way forward for him is to confront his failure and start
again,
Someone else, something else, somewhere else?
If he refuses to accept this he will die on the vine.
She will leave eventually anyway, so there's no point in trying to stop
her,
Only a fool would want a woman that doesn't want him,
Only a selfish person would try to satisfy their own needs at the
expense of another's.
He thinks if he bullies her for long enough she will give in and
stay,
He thinks he can make her want him.
He spends his time peeping through keyholes,
Looming over her like a malignant growth.
Alternating between threats and grovelling on the floor,
Crying like a baby, he plays the sympathy card, he plays the suicide
card
But he's far too cowardly to put his chips on it.
What is there in it for her? To submit to a man she finds
pathetic,
To stay for no other reason than because he can't face the reality of
life,
That she doesn't love him, she doesn't want him.
Yet he begs her to stay, to sacrifice her own life for him, a man who
cares for nothing
But his own version of happiness, he gives no thought to hers.
He has suffocated the yearning in her breast for far too long,
Her heart is beating to a different drum now and it's too late for
him.
She too, has to face the fact that he will not make it easy for her,
that ultimately
She will have to find the strength to bear the tears and pain and
unerringly,
Walk out into the sunshine again, into the embrace of the future
without looking back.
What lies ahead is uncertain, but whatever is there has to be better
than this hell.
She lifts her face to the heavens with tears in her eyes,
Somewhere way above her in the midnight sky there is a star
shining,
It shines for her, she sees it, and she's transfixed.
She wants her freedom and one way or another she will have it...
