Broken Home

Dave got up on Christmas day
And then he just left
His kids they were unable to play
They were so bereft
Anger rose inside Dave's wife
She had other things to consider
Because inside her was a life
Alone she would have to deliver
He said sorry to his kids
Before he left the building
The problem with that is
Their emotions he’s not yielding
The atmosphere it was black
The house it was sombre
Will they get their daddy back?
His kids began to wonder
Weeks went by without a word
And the kids they did miss him
Nothing was said until they heard
He had gone to prison
For Dave had done something wrong
He was charged with drug possession
That was the reason he had gone
That was the real confession
Their mother wept when they slept
Beside her in her bed
His sentencing from them she kept
And kissed her new baby’s head

This was such a sad scene to
This was such a sad scene to read, but all too often at Christmas things can go terribly wrong. Hope it wasn't based on a real event because it could happen.
I found it very moving having lived in a womens refuge and it was all very familiar.
It made a good poem.
Jenny.
