Caged Bird

I feel like a caged bird,
trapped,
looking through bars,
wishing to be free.
I stand on my perch
observing other birds
constructing nests,
excited for eggs.
I’m reminiscent
Of my companion,
My nest,
My eggs.
I sat on those eggs
continuously,
keeping them safe
and warm,
fighting away the vicious magpies,
praying for them to hatch…...
…...but they never did.
My cage followed,
the clink of the door,
so final as it locked,
my freedom abolished,
destined for a life sentence
of misery.
I open my mouth,
nothing comes out,
I’m numb, tired,
unaware of those I once envied,
broken.
I am that caged bird!

Touchingly raw and a tearful
Touchingly raw and a tearful and sad comparison. Caged birds are a painful sight to behold, knowing thier freedom is just an open door away. One should never trap a free spirit or a feathered friend- allow it to soar, even if it gets caught in a storm and has to hunker down during the worst of times, it will fly again when those storm clouds pass. And for those of us watching them fly...Optimism, faith and hope grow wings.

Not all birds crave to lay
Not all birds crave to lay eggs and wait for them to hatch. It is a well-known fact that there are gay birds who don't rely on reproduction but can build a nest with a mate and make use of other birds' eggs.
In Odense Zoo in Denmark, a pair of male king penguins adopted an egg that had been abandoned by a female, proceeding to incubate it and raise the chick
Zoos in Japan and Germany have also documented homosexual male penguin couples. The couples have been shown to build nests together and use a stone as a substitute for an egg.
