In a two up two down terraced house, is where her pain began.
That small green couch, on that busy rug, is where he touched Suzanne.
Suzanne had not only her, she had an older self as well.
Both had the unfortunate memories, his touch, his taste, his smell.
Her memories were part of her, her younger self included.
From her and only her other self, vulnerability exuded.
‘That green couch in this green room’ the older Suzanne said,
‘It’s a place you’ll never forget! Trust me, you’re in my head.’
‘How can I make him stop?,’ the little Suzanne cried.
‘I’m afraid you can't my dear,’ the big Suzanne sighed.
‘The only thing we can do right now, is close our eyes real tight,
And think of the stars in the sky when we’re asleep tonight.’
‘What are we looking for in the stars?’ the little Suzanne asked,
‘He is up there now,’ she told herself, ‘he has long since passed.’
‘What does that mean for us?’ the little Suzanne smiled,
‘Well, now, for you at least, you can be a child.’
Big Suzanne held her little friend tightly by the hand
Together they walked on the beach, leaving footprints in the sand.
