a morning to remember

We sat side by side on the bench on the grass verge looking over the sea and shared a breakfast roll. It was simply a roll packed full of sausages, which some might dispute as not being a real breakfast roll, but for us it was heaven. The waves of the sea crashed against each other before us, the sound glorious. I looked into his deep brown eyes that were glazed over with cataracts and smiled. Oh, how nice it was to just sit back in nature and watch the waves. With the roll gone, he decided he would jump down from the bench and run onto the smooth sandy beach, constantly looking up to see if I was still there, not that he could see much at that stage.
I will always remember how good he was on that particular day. With all his sniffing done, he returned, walking on the early morning dew kissed grass to get to me. I lifted him back up onto the bench, noticing his under carriage specked with sand and giggled as his soft wet tongue kissed me on the cheek. I will always remember that day as it was one of the last before he got sick. We stared back at the water and nodded to each other, almost knowing it was a memory to cherish!
