ASTEROID BELT

between the paths of jupiter

and mars, it has been felt
that once there was a planet
but what's left behind's a belt
.
a belt of many asteroids
suspended in the void
like little islands, lost at sea
forlorn and sadly buoyed
.
it really makes me wonder
what the planet would be named
and what horrific forces
of destruction could be blamed
.
i think a planet, feminine
was floating there back then
in love with mars and jupiter
attracted to both men
.
both planets used their force on her
till she was blown apart
and all those little asteroids
are pieces of her heart
.
astronomers may laugh at me
and think my tale, insane
i'm sure they hold some theories
they'd be happy to explain
.
but i am a romantic
not a fan of science fact
i'd like to think that planets
used to mix and interact
.
our lovely missing planet
felt the need to finally melt
those scattered pieces of her heart
formed a necklace, not a belt
